XLSIOR 2026: an honest brief on gay Mykonos festival week
7 August 2026· Theo & Thanasis
XLSIOR is the largest gay festival in the Mediterranean and the reason Mykonos is the gay capital of Greece for one week a year. It runs from 20 to 25 August 2026. It has been going since 2009 and now pulls something like 30,000 people to an island of about 10,000 residents. If you are already booked, the next fortnight is about logistics rather than excitement. If you are not booked, read the last paragraph first.
What the week actually looks like
The rhythm is fixed and it is relentless. Pool and beach parties from mid afternoon, a sunset event, then the main night party running from midnight until the sun comes up. Super Paradise carries the big daytime events, with Jackie O' Beach Club and Ftelia in the mix. Nobody does all of it. Pick three or four events across six days and treat the rest as recovery.
The two things people get wrong
Transfers first. Taxis on Mykonos are famously scarce, there are only a few dozen on the whole island, and during XLSIOR the queue at 5am is not a queue you want to join. Book your airport and port transfers before you fly, and book the beach runs too.
Beach clubs second. A sunbed at the high end places is not a sunbed, it is a minimum spend. Front row at the famous names in August runs into several hundred euros before you have had a drink. That is fine if you know it in advance and budget for one big day rather than six. It is a nasty surprise if you turn up expecting a €25 lounger.
If you have not booked
Be realistic. Accommodation during XLSIOR sells out months ahead and what is left in August is expensive and far from Chora. The better plan is June or September next year, when the sea is warm, the bars are full, and the island is neither as loud nor as costly. We would rather send you at the right time than sell you a bad week.
